The lead/hook is interesting and grabs the reader's attention. The information following the lead provides great support and finishes with the prompt clearly stated.
Set-Up

There is some background information and explanation of setting, but it lacks detail. There is some information about the people involved. There is little to no foreshadowing.
Fair

The background information provides details about the setting, but more details could have been given. The foreshadowing is displayed but it is unclear. There is detail about the characters.
Excellent!

There is a great deal of detail for the setting, characters, and background. The foreshadowing is clearly written and leaves the reader wondering what will happen next.
Beginning of Event

There is little explanation as to how the events unraveled. More detail should be provided. There are little to no transitions from the background information.

There is some explanation for the events, but it lacks detail. Some transition words are provided, but it is still unclear.

The explanation of events is clear and easy to follow. Transition words help the changing of situations to be read smoothly.
Climax of Event

Climax is lacking drama or interest. The conflict leaves little desire to continue reading. It is poorly written in terms of building suspense.

The order of events is clearly written that leads up to a dramatic climax. Readers would be interested to continue to find out the outcome of the event.
Resolution/Solution

The resolution is either unclear, not provided, or misplaced throughout the rest of the story. The ending leaves the reader confused.

The resolution is stated in the appropriate place, but it lacks detail and could be written with more description.

The resolution clearly flows from the climax and solves the problem stated. The ending of the story answers all questions in the story in well-written format.
Writing/Mechanics

There is little to no indentation and/or punctuation. There are multiple spelling mistakes. Verb tense shifts repeatedly throughout the story.

There is some effort of indentation and punctuation. Few spelling errors are shown. Verb tense is inconsistent.
Excellent!

All indentation and punctuation are appropriately placed. Very few spelling errors. Verb tense is consistent which makes the story easier to follow.
