Preschool Writing Rubric
	Demonstrating 4 pts	More Developing 3 pts	Developing 2 pts	Areas for improvement 1 pts
Writing Name	Demonstrating The student can effectively print his/her first and last name legibly in correct upper and lower case lettering.	More Developing The student can print his/her first name legibly but not the last name in correct upper and lower case lettering	Developing The student can print his/her first name in all capital lettering, or a mixture of upper and lower case lettering.	Areas for improvement The student can not write his first name yet.
Picture Content	Demonstrating The student can draw a recognizable picture of himself/herself and the detail and color of the picture is excellent. (eyes, ears, hair, etc.)	More Developing The student can draw a picture of himself/herself and the detail of the drawing is good.	Developing The student can draw a picture of himself/herself but includes little detail and parts of the body.	Areas for improvement The student only draws a circle with two sticks for arms or less detail.
Writing Letters	Demonstrating The student can write both upper case and lower case lettering of the alphabet. Correct size and spacing of lettering is demonstrated.	More Developing The student can write upper case lettering of the alphabet, and some lower case letters of the alphabet. Correct size and spacing of lettering is utilized some.	Developing The student can write some of the letters of the alphabet in upper case or lower case. Correct size and spacing of lettering is utilized rarely.	Areas for improvement The student is learning to recognize the letters of the alphabet. Writing letters of the alphabet is a struggle.
