Pitch accuracy

OUTSTANDING

You sang with accurate pitches throughout the piece in both the low and high parts of your vocal range.
AVERAGE

There were only one or two pitch inaccuracies, but overall, you sang all pitches very well.
BELOW AVERAGE

There were many pitch problems in your presentation. You are struggling to sing correctly on your part. Greater focus and attention are necessary in order for your grade to improve.
Rhythm accuracy

OUTSTANDING

Your rhythms were sung properly both on and off the beat. You have an expert awareness of this skill.
AVERAGE

There were only one or two rhythmic inaccuracies, but overall, you did very well.
BELOW AVERAGE

There were several rhythmic inaccuracies. You must pay attention in class when we go over these things.
Energy

OUTSTANDING

You sang with energy, with your mouth opened.
AVERAGE

Your energy level was fine, and you sang with your mouth opened most of the time.
BELOW AVERAGE

Only occasionally, and then only with prompting, did you sing with energy, your mouth was not opened enough.
Projection

OUTSTANDING

You sang with purpose and confidence. I had no problems at all hearing your voice.
AVERAGE

You sang well, but you need to work on projecting your voice and singing with confidence. You did a great job, just sing out a little more!
BELOW AVERAGE

Your voice was not projected. If I can't hear you, it is hard to give you a grade. .
Diction and articulation

OUTSTANDING

You sang with words that were understandable; your vocal line was articulated clearly; your phrasing was excellent and your diction was near perfect. Final consonants and tall vowels were in evidence.
AVERAGE

I could understand almost every word, but there were a few times when final consonants and tall vowels could have been sung more carefully.
BELOW AVERAGE

Not only did I not understand your words, you also did not know some of them. This is probably due to a lack of attention during rehearsals.
Proper tone quality/blend

OUTSTANDING

You sang with a beautiful tone that was pleasing and properly supported. You are a true role model for your peers. You have an outstanding voice.
AVERAGE

You did a fine job. You need to be aware that although you have a wonderful voice, there are times when your voice tends to not blend with those around you. Try to allow it to become more a part of the ensemble.
BELOW AVERAGE

Your voice is fine, but there were several times when your vocal tone was just a bit edgy, making it stand out and blend less than it could. Try listening more to those around you than trying to sing loudly. Your breathing is inconsistent and shallow.
Breath Support

OUTSTANDING

I can see that you are taking a nice tall breath when you sing. Keep filling up with air!
AVERAGE

Make sure you are always taking tall, deep breaths when singing. Your energy comes from your breath!! Fill up with air at all times!
BELOW AVERAGE

Your breathing is inconsistent and shallow. You can not sing properly if you do not have air to work with. Try to take taller, deeper breaths and fill up with air!
Proper Singing Posture

OUTSTANDING

You stood tall with your feet planted on the floor and your shoulders rolled back and your hands by your side! Good job!
AVERAGE

You stood tall most of the time, but you let your weight fall to one side and you let your shoulders relax a little too often. Make sure you are always working on posture!
BELOW AVERAGE

You did not stand tall, you had very poor posture. You must keep your feet planted on the ground, not moving around, and your hands by your side. This is extremely important to your sound!
