Letters from Rifka Diary Rubric 
The student will write three diary entries in the style of Letters from Rifka by Karen Hesse. Each entry will be at least 250 words and be as accurate as possible in the area of setting (early 20th century America), characterization (Jewish immigrants), and writing style similar to the novel. The theme of prejudice against Jews and how the diarist reacts to it should be included. The student may write as Rifka or as her brother, Saul. Students will read aloud their diary entries to the class following submission.
