Every week I will evaluate you using the criteria below. If you feel that I have not done so fairly, or that I have made a mistake in this evaluation of you, please see me promptly for a discussion. Possible score of 100 points.

•Does not distract others by talking, etc.

•Focus is generally good.
•Does not distract others.
•Is rarely distracted by others.

•Focus has improved but could be better.
•Distractions are not easily deflected, but does try.
BELOW AVERAGE

•Is easily distracted.
•Occasionally distracts others.
•Focus needs to be better.
NOT GOOD

•Distracts others as a matter of course.
•Is rarely focused on the music.
•Received a yellow slip this week for poor behavior.

Sight Singing
15 %

This is the best way to become a superior singer and musician.

EXCELLENT

•Is one of the top 3 students at sight singing.
•Is someone to be leaned upon.
ABOVE AVERAGE

•Is one of the top 10 students at sight singing.
•Reliable for others in the section.
AVERAGE

•Is progressing nicely with sight singing, and needs more practice.
BELOW AVERAGE

•Needs more practice at sight singing.
•Please see me for extra help.
NOT GOOD

•Usually only participates in sight singing practice when threatened.
Diaphragmatic Breathing
10 %

This is essential for good singing.

EXCELLENT

•Shows obvious evidence of proper diaphragmatic breathing, and can actually teach the process.
ABOVE AVERAGE

•Knows how to breath diaphragmatically, and needs only occasional reminders.
AVERAGE

•Appears to know how to breathe diaphragmatically, but shows signs of inconsistent practice.
BELOW AVERAGE

•Appears to still be breathing with small chest/shoulder breathing, and is struggling with the concept of deep belly breathing.
•Please see me to correct this situation.

•Seems to not care one way or the other, and shows no interest in learning how to breath diaphragmatically.
Singing Posture/Music Deportment

•Proper singing posture is non existent.
•If correction is made, it is only for a moment, then reverts to poor.
Music, Pencil

These are essential classroom tools.

•Always has pencil in hand during rehearsals.
•Music is always neat, and when not being used in a rehearsal, can be found on its proper shelf.

•Needs reminders about pencil in hand during rehearsals.
•Music is usually neat, and when not being used in a rehearsal, can be found on its proper shelf.
AVERAGE

•Needs pencil in hand reminder.
•Music is usually neat, and when not being used in a rehearsal, can be found on its proper shelf.
BELOW AVERAGE

•Does not always have a pencil for rehearsal.
•Music may be untidy, and occasionally not on shelf when not being used.

•Utter disregard for music.
• Rarely has a pencil.

•Always participates at a high level.

•Does well in chorus, and needs only occasional reminders to participate at a high level.

•Participation is very low or non-existent.
