Student was actively involved with the group discussion.

Comments related to the topic of discussion.

While other group members were speaking student was activly listening.
Performance of Job

Each group member has a specific job in the group. Level of performance of job.

Poor

Student's job was not evident.

Student let his/her group down by not doing their specific job.
Adequate

Student completed their job but also tried to complete other students' jobs as well.

Student periodically "forgot" to complete their job/got side tracked.
Excellent

Student's job was obvious.

Student followed and completed all of his/her role responsibilites.
Connections to the story

Ability to make connections from the story to the real world and ability to understand new vocabulary based on context clues.

Student did not make any connections from the story to the real world.

Student was not able to "prove" his/her answers with examples from the story.
Adequate

Student was able to answer questions correctly but was unable to "prove" context clues explained the vocabulary from the story.

Student made very little connections from the story to the real world.

Student made insightful connections from the story to the real world or his/her personal experiences.

Student was able to "prove" context clue examples from the story identified the meaning of the vocabulary.
Behavior

Use of manners during the group work.

Student was not respectful of other students opinions.

Student was not rude but needs to work proper group manners.

May need to work on interrupting students or being able to express his/her opinion in a non-threatening way and/or listen to a difference of opinion.

Student was very polite. Waited his/her turn to talk.

Never interrupted another student.

Did not use harsh criticism when disagreeing with another student.
