Expression & Volume	Below Average Boring and too quiet. Does not sound like natural speaking.	Average Some expression. A little quiet.	Good Good expression and volume.	Excellent Excellent expression and volume. Varies expression and volume to match what is being read
Phrasing	Below Average Frequent word-by-word reading. Breaks at wrong places or no break where there should be one.	Average Choppy reading; Fails to mark ends of sentences and clauses.	Good Mostly correct phrasing.	Excellent Well phrased, mostly in clause and sentence units, with good expression.
Smoothness, Accuracy	Below Average Long pauses, false starts, sound-outs, repetitions, and/or multiple attempts.	Average Several “rough spots” mixed with good reading	Good Smooth with few breaks caused by problems with a few words.	Excellent Smooth reading. Word problems are corrected quickly without help.
Speed of reading	Below Average Very slow and hard to listen to.	Average Uneven mix of too fast and too slow reading.	Good Steady, easy-to-listen-to pace. Only a few pauses.	Excellent Good reading rate. Love to listen to this reader.
