Requirements/ Usage	Poor Student handed in only one poem. OR:It was not clear as to what theme or character the student was trying to portray.	Fair Student wrote only 2 poems/ or handed in a poem that was not long enough. Symbolism, theme depiction was there, but not descriptive.	Good Student wrote at least three short poems or one long poem about the story, a theme from the story, or one or more of the characters. Poems were adequate and depicted the criteria.	Enter Title Student wrote at least three short poems or one long poem about the story, a theme from the story, or one or more of the characters. The poem depicted the novels theme/ or the plot, etc. Excellent poems.
Explanation Essay	Poor Student provides only a brief paragraph explaining how the poem(s) relates to the novel; paragraph is written poorly.	Fair Student provides a brief, well-written paragraph explaining the poem(s) relation to the novel.	Good Student provides at least a 1-page description of how their poetry relates to the novel. The essay has few grammatical errors and is easy to understand.	Enter Title Student provides an excellent essay, at least a page in length. Grammar usage is almost perfect and the explanations are absolutely wonderful.
Oral Presentation	Poor Student reads only some of their poetry; they mumble and it is difficult to hear them.	Fair	Good Student reads only some of their poetry in front of the class; they speak loudly and clearly for all to hear.	Enter Title Student reads all of their poetry in front of the class; They speak loudly and clearly for all to hear.
