The student did the assignment adequately, yet it shows lack of planning and little evidence that an overall composition was planned. There is some evidence of the use of the of line variation.

The artwork shows that the student applied knowledge of line variation at a complex level. The artwork shows that the student went beyond the minimum expectations.

Planned carefully, made several sketches, and showed an awareness of the elements and principles of design; chose color scheme carefully and considered the techniques of abstraction, simplification and exaggeration.

The project was mostly completed and a minimum amount of effort was used. The student does not take pride in the outcome or The student did not finish the work adequately, missing details or aspects of the assignment.

The student finished the project, but it could have been improved with more effort; there was adequate interpretation of the assignment, but a lack of finish.

The student worked hard and completed the project, but with more effort it might have been outstanding. The student took pride in having completed the work.

The project was continued until it was complete. The student gave it effort far beyond that required. The student took pride in going well beyond the requirement.
