Music Theory 
Practical elements and applications of the guiding principles behind the composition of music in the Euro-American tradition. Areas of study include: notation, intervals, diatonic chords, seventh chords, functional harmony, cadences, secondary dominants, voice leading, higher extension chords, form, stylistic elements, ear training, harmonic analysis. Assignments will include mastery level exercises for basic knowledge, writing compositions of various lengths and styles, analysis of provided music, ongoing ear training using computer program and in-class exercises
