Book Review due 10/18 
Students will read a book of at least 200 pages that may be above but not more than 50 points below their lexile level. Complete the book review template as follows: rate the book by the number of stars and color these in, fill in your name, the lexile level of the book you read, title, author, genre, number of pages, and your recommendation. Then list 5 new words you learned on the back. Give the definition of the word, copy the sentence it was in, and note the page number on which the word was found.

Excellent

All bibliographic information neat and complete. Appropriate lexile level. Recommendation elaborates on rating, including information on the protagonist and conflict without giving away the resolution. Personal opinion is supported with relevant examples. All writing perfectly edited.

Poor

Three or more of the following problems: lexile level of book too low for reader; bibliographic element missing or incorrect; recommendation does not include information on the protagonist or conflict; personal opinion not supported; not neat or edited. Further points deducted from 40 for each missing/erroneous element.
Vocabulary

Excellent

5 vocabulary words are neatly written on the back of the template, along with the definition which corresponds to how the word is used in context. The sentence from the book in which the word appears is copied, and the page number noted. One definition includes the word's etymology. All writing neat and perfectly edited.
Fair

One or two of the following problems: definition does not correspond to use of the word in context; incomplete sentence/ page number; not neat or properly edited.
Poor

Three or more of the following problems: fewer than 5 vocabulary words; definition does not correspond to use of the word in context; incomplete sentence/ page number; not neat or properly edited. Further points deducted for each missing/erroneous element.
