Character	Below the standard Student tries but is unable to name a character from the story	approaching the standard Student can name one or more characters from the story .	met the standard Students can name one or more characters from the story and can tell if the character is a person or an animal.	exceeded the standard The student can identify the main character(s) and the important supporting characters. TL can also explain how the main character is important to the story.
