Mechanics	Needs Work Poem is 11 lines or less. Words/phrases are disconnected and chosen at random, or the poem is completely lifted from one section with no changes by the new author. Punctuation and line length hinder the comprehension of the poem, leaving it difficult to read and/or confusing.	Great Poem is 12-14 lines. Words/phrases are placed intentionally, but may seem stilted or awkward. Punctuation and line length may seem out of place in parts of the poem.	Excellent! Poem is 15 or more lines. Words/phrases are thoughtfully placed in specific order. Line breaks and punctuation have a rhyme and reason complimenting the poem.
Topic	Needs Work Poem barely or is not on topic and tone feels completely absent or rarely accomplished. Words are fabricated and little to no words/phrases are used fro the original piece.	Great Poem mostly stays on topic and may have a line that isn't directly from the original piece. Some sentences may seem awkward and do not relate to the overall tone.	Excellent! Poem stays on topic and embodies a specific tone. It relates to original piece it was built from and uses only words/phrases found in that piece.
Analysis/Artistic Expression	Needs Work Author either chose a tone and did not follow it, or did not choose one at all. The poem lacks emotionally quality and may feel hastily done without much thought from the author in connecting it to themselves or the original piece.	Great Author has chosen a tone or purpose and related it to the original piece, but the poem itself may not express these decisions to the fullest extend. The poem contains some emotion, but improperly placed phrases or words may diminish its value.	Excellent! Poem has a specific tone with a purpose that the author has deliberately chosen to compliment or contrast the original piece. Author has expressed feeling and emotion in the poem, leaving the reader feeling full and satisfied.
