Building a Musical Instrument Project 
S1P1c,d. Students will investigate how vibrations produce sound. Student will differentiate between various sounds in terms of (pitch) high or low and (volume) loud or soft. Task: Students will construct and present a homemade musical instrument. Student will present what materials were chosen, how constructed, quality of sound, and how sound is produced.

Does Not Meet Standard

The instrument reflects some alteration to an existing form to "make" the instrument, may be fragile, and may not stand up to being played more than once. There may be little or an absence of decoration.
Quality of Sound

Exceeds Standard

Student can produce good-quality sounds on the instrument. Explained how the sound is produced; included the level of pitch and volume.
Meets Standard

Student is able to produce a basic sound on the instrument. Explained how the sound is produced and the pitch level.
Does Not Meet Standard

Unable to produce a basic sound. Unable to explain how was to be made nor the pitch level.
Presentation / Demonstration

Exceeds Standard

Student included all 4 components required in the presentation. He or she did so without prompts from the teacher.
Meets Standard

Student included 2-3 components required in the presentation without prompting from the teacher.
Does Not Meet Standard

Student includes 1 (or no) component required in the presentation without prompting. There is little motivation seen.
