Format	Poor The author did not format the story as required or has more than five errors.	Fair The author formated the story with three to four errors.	Good The author formated the story with one to two errors.	Excellent The author formated the story as required in the prompt without any errors.
Organization	Poor There is no organization to the story.	Fair The author has major errors in organization. The author needs to separate lengthy paragraphs and delete unnecessary details from the story.	Good The author has minor errors in organization. The author has two to three paragraphs that should be separated into more paragraphs, such as lines of dialogue, and no unnecessary details in the story.	Excellent The author has little to no errors in organization, has dialogue in the right place, and does not include unnecessary details in the story.
Conflict	Poor There is no conflict in the story.	Fair There are several conflicts in the story that are confusing and vague.	Good The conflict in the story is confusing or vague and needs some more time to be developed.	Excellent The conflict in the story is clear and is the central point of the story.
Sensory details	Poor There are less than three sensory details and are limited to one of the five sensory details.	Fair There are less than six sensory details in this story and are limited to one of the five sensory details.	Good There are some sensory details in this story, but are limited only to two of the five sensory details. There are at least seven sensory details	Excellent There is an abundance of sensory details that aid the story. There are more than ten sensory details and at least four of the five sensory details have been used.
Dialogue	Poor The author does not use dialogue or has more than seven errors in punctuation.	Fair The author has major errors using dialogue where conversation occurs and has less than seven errors in punctuation. Good The author incorporates some, three to four, of the elements of fiction and could have incorporated more elements such as setting, mood, or point of view.	Excellent The author incorporates most of the elements of fiction: mood, setting, consistent point of view, conflict, and/or theme and demonstrates a firm understanding of the elements of fiction
Grammar	Poor The author has between more than twelve grammatical errors.	Fair The author has between eleven to nine grammatical errors.	Good The author has between eight to six grammatical errors.	Excellent The author has fewer than five grammatical errors.
Spelling	Poor The author has more than ten spelling errors.	Fair The author has between nine and seven spelling errors.	Good The author has between six and four spelling errors.	Excellent The author has fewer than three spelling errors.
Creativity/completion	Poor N/A	Fair The author's story has little creativity or has not completed the story.	Good The author's story lacks some components of creativity or is not fully flushed out.	Excellent The author has a creative story that is completed.
