Student is unsure what Layers are used for. Student builds composition in one layer without regard for all of the composition's elements.

Student is aware of what Layers are used for, but they do not understand using the order in which to place elements to create background and foreground.
Good

Student understands the importance of Layers in a design. Student struggles to place their elements where they'd like them to be for the designs purpose. Student understand the reason exporting artboards but not selections or specific assets.
Excellent

Student identifies and understands the importance of basic design principles. Student understands how to create Foreground and background in their composition and why it's important. Student understands the reason for exporting artboards, selections, and specific assets.
Software Knowledge

Poor

Student is unsure of how to open, close, and navigate various functions in the software. Student does not have a willingness/easily frustrated with software.
Fair

Student has difficulty renaming, duplicating and hiding/revealing their Layers. Student has trouble finding the Layers panel when accidently closed. Student creates an element on the wrong Layer and cannot/does not move it to correct Layer. Student completes a few steps of creating a clipping mask but not all.
Good

Students create Layers for different elements but don't name them. Student knows and demonstrates use of 2 file formats. Student can create and delete Layers unassisted needs assistance otherwise. Student creates a clipping mask with minimal assistance or few verbal cues.
Excellent

Student identifies and demonstrates proper use of file formats. Student can create, duplicate, and delete layers with ease. Student can create a clipping mask unassisted. Students can name Layers unassisted.
Document Setup/Resolution

Poor

Student is unsure of the difference between Resolution for Web and Resolution for Print. Student is unsure how to set/change their document/artboard size.
Fair

Student transposes resolution for web and resolution for print consistently. Student struggles/needs assistance to adjust their resolution back and forth. Student only understand 1 export option. Student completes a few steps during the document set-up/adjustment before asking for help.
Good

Student knows which resolution to use, but does not know which file format to use. Student does not recognize when their resolution needs to be adjusted. Student knows the difference between Web and Print. Student can set up their document and edit their document with assistance.
Excellent

Student can set up their document and edit their artboard/document unassisted. Student knows the difference between resolution for Web and Print and why its necessary. Student can recognize when their resolution needs to be adjusted.
