Intro, Body, Conclusion	Poor No paragraphs are used to show intro, body and conclusion of essay.	Fair Is missing at least one part.	Good Paragraphs are used for all essay parts, but transitions may be awkward or sequence may be confusing.	Excellent All essay parts are clearly used to guide the reader from intro to conclusion.
Addresses Prompt	Poor Topic is clearly not addressed by the writing.	Fair Some attempt made to address the prompt, but not all aspects of it are present or the thesis is weakly supported.	Good The writing addresses the prompt overall, but may lack one or two features or have less support than needed to convince the reader.	Excellent Clearly addresses every part of the prompt and provides strong evidence to support the thesis.
Topic Sentences	Poor No topic sentences are clearly identifiable.	Fair Not all paragraphs have a topic sentence, and the topic sentences may be unclear or unsupported by the rest of the paragaph	Good Most paragraphs have a clear topic sentence.	Excellent Each paragraph has a clearly identifiable topic sentence.
