Claim	Exceeds Claim is present and clear and supports the essay's purpose.	Meets Claim is present and clearly written with some support of essay's purpose.	Partially Meets Claim is present but doesn't include reasons for the essay's purpose.	Does Not Meet Claim is not present or is not clear
Supporting details/textual support	Exceeds body paragraph(s) contains relevant and specific supporting details.	Meets body paragraph(s) contains at supporting details that may not be specific or relevant.	Partially Meets body paragraph(s) contains at least one supporting detail but detail may be vague or irrelevant.	Does Not Meet No supporting details are present in body paragraphs
Logical order	Exceeds The essay is developed in a logical order appropriate to the writer's purpose and reader's needs.	Meets Most of the essay is presented in a logical order, and readers should have little trouble following the supporting details.	Partially Meets The writer attempts to develop the essay in a logical order, but some of the essay may be presented in an order readers may find confusing.	Does Not Meet The supporting details within the essay as a whole are not developed in a logical order.
Grammar and Mechanics	Exceeds The essay is largely error-free in usage, spelling, and mechanics. Transitions are present and used very well.	Meets The essay contains few errors in usage, spelling and mechanics.Transitions may be basic and/or confusing.	Partially Meets The essay contains several errors in usage, spelling and mechanics. Does Not Meet None of the paper guidelines are followed and no required vocabulary is used.
