Ideas and Content	Good Story reveals the time and place character lived; vividly describes a time in his/her life; most or all details are historically accurate.	Fair Story reveals the time and place character lived, but some areas are vague; describes a time in his/her life; many details are historically accurate.	Poor Story does not reveal the time and place character lived. There are no historical details or they are inaccurate.
Organization	Good Story is well organized; events happen in a logical and interesting order. Easy for the reader to understand.	Fair Some events organized; however, some events jump around, start and end are unclear, reader occasionally confused.	Poor Writing is not organized; events make no sense to the reader.
Fluency	Good There is a wide variety of sentence structures that make the story flow well.	Fair There is a variety of sentence structures, but parts may be choppy or awkward to read.	Poor Sentences are choppy, run-on, or rambling, making the story hard to understand.
Word Choice	Good Vivid and exciting words add to the story. There is more than one extended example of imagery that adds to the story. The language makes the story come to life.	Fair There some vivid and exciting words. There is at least one extended example of imagery. The language is appropriate to the time period and the characters.	Poor Word choice is bland. There is no imagery. The language is not appropriate to the time period and the characters.
Conventions	Good Grammar and punctuation errors are few. The reader is not distracted by the errors.	Fair There are a number of errors that may confuse the reader.	Poor Nearly every sentence contains errors.
