Research/Testable Question	Poor No research question is included.	Fair The question includes both Ind. and Dep. variables but is vague.	Good The question asks "how X affects Y" clearly, with enough detail to gain a general understanding of the project.
Background Research	Poor No background research paragraph is included.	Fair Includes a paragraph including significance but not background theory (if needed) or vice-versa	Good The student includes at least one paragraph on why the project is significant and provides background research to explain theory.
Variables	Poor Student does not specifically state variables.	Fair Variables are listed but most are superficial.	Good Student lists RELEVANT indepependent, dependent and controlled variables.
Materials List	Poor No Materials list included	Fair The list lacks some crucial materials.	Good All materials used are included.
