Needs improvement Many notes or chords are played incorrectly, or student illustrates very little effort in being able to play the assessment piece.	Satisfactory Most notes or chords are played correctly, and student illustrates effort in being able to play the correct chords or notes.	Excellent Piece is played with very few mistakes in notes, and effort is show in interpreting the notation or chords to make it musical.
Recovery	Poor Student struggles with being able to continue playing after a mistake has been made.	Needs improvement Student shows little success with being able to continue playing after a mistake has been made.	Satisfactory Student is able to successfully recover from any mistakes in a hardly noticeable manner.	Excellent Student seamlessly recovers from any unplanned event in the improvisation in an unnoticeable way to the listener.
Confidence	Poor Student cannot play piece with appropriate volume or correct rhythms and does not exude confidence in playing.	Needs improvement Student struggles to play piece with appropriate volume or correct rhythms and displays limited confidence in playing.	Satisfactory Student plays piece with a reasonably appropriate volume and correct rhythms and displays satisfactory confidence in playing.	Excellent Student plays piece with appropriate volume and correct rhythms and displays exceptional confidence in playing.
Utilize Class Material	Poor Student does not utilize any of the scale patterns or blues phrases learned in class.	Needs improvement Student rarely utilizes any of the scale patterns or blues phrases learned in class.	Satisfactory Student utilizes some of the scale patterns or blues phrases learned in class.
