Poor

Students did not make a plan. They did not think about what they wanted to make and how to get to the end result
Fair

Students put some thought into their plan but only did one or two steps. Did not think of matierals that would be appropriate.
Good

Students put thought into their plan and put three steps and explained materials that would be used.
Exceptional

Students wrote a detailed plan with five or more steps for their plan. They selected materials and used explanations for each material.
Step-by-step directions

Poor

Students wrote one step for their model.
Fair

Students wrote two short steps and missed many important steps in between.
Good

Students included all steps to their completed model and had some detail.
Exceptional

Students thoroughly wrote step-by-step directions. Including what to fasten materials together with.
Completed Model

Poor

Students model was not completed or does not stay together. Students put little effort into their design and does not match the project guidelines.
Fair

Students attempted a design but it does not stay together as suggested. Students did not make alternations to adapt their model.
Good

Students model is completed, stays fastened together and matches the guidelines for the project.
Exceptional

Student's model is strong, creative, detailed (added color, pattern, etc), and meets guidelines.
Comparison

Poor

Students do not recognize how their model is the same or different than anothers.
Fair

Student only recognizes that there is one similarity and one difference.
Good

Student recongizes two or three similarities and differences including materials used, size, color, etc.
Exceptional

Student recognizes four or more similarities and differences. Including one creative comparison that is not easily seen.
Presentation

Poor

Students cannot describe how they made the model, where they would use it or what the purpose is.
Fair

Students can describe some steps, and have difficulty finding a purpose for their model.
Good

Students can describe three steps, explain why they selected certain materials and describes a purpose for the project.
Exceptional

Students can describe three steps in detail, explain their reasoning for selecting materials and describe two purposes for their project.
