Good The introduction states the main idea but does not preview the structure of the paper and is not inviting to the reader.	Poor There is no clear introduction of the main idea or the structure of the paper.
Sentences	Excellent The student wrote 8 sentences about an animal.	Very Good The student wrote 5-7 sentences about an animal.	Good The student wrote 3-4 sentences about an animal.	Poor The student wrote 1-2 sentences about an animal.
Closing Sentence	Excellent The closing sentence is strong.	Very Good The closing sentence is recognizable but does not tie up some of the loose ends.
