FLUENCY Student will read a paragraph of their choosing rhythmically	Poor the passage is read choppily with sentences run together	Fair the passage is read somewhat smoothly, pausing at most commas and stopping at endmarks	Fantastic! the passage is read with a natural pace and rhythm, breaking at all the right places
EXPRESSION Student will read with inflection with emphasis on dialogue	Poor student reads with no inflection; monotone; uninteresting to audience	Fair student reads with some voice changes but not consistent throughout	Fantastic! student morphs voice in necessary spots, including at the end of sentences and from character to character
SUMMARIZING Student will retell what happened in the reading with a natural sequence	Poor student cannot remember anything read or invents information	Fair student leaves out some main ideas and points but includes relevant information; some parts of story out of order	Fantastic! student summarizes key ideas and in a logical order
INFER/PREDICT Student will answer an inference or prediction question related to the reading	Poor answer to question in no way relates to story	Fair answer to question could be a possible explanation in regards to the story	Fantastic! answer to question is a knowledgable one in which the story could take that direction
