Synthesis of Topic This rubric will be used to evaluate each of the chapter writing assignments.
	Poor 3 pts	Fair 5 pts	Good 10 pts
Statement of Problem 1 pts Student has identified problem.	Poor Little information given as to what the problem is.	Fair Has stated problem as well as what it causes or develops into.	Good Complete statement of problem, its characteristics, and why we should be concerned.
Background 1 pts Student has provided reader with information on topic.	Poor Has little or no background. No information from sources other than the text.	Fair Information provides reader with a mininal understanding of problem, its origins, and outcomes. Use of sources is limited to one.	Good Reader is able to understand what the problem is, how it becomes a problem, and who it affects. 2-3 sources are used to support writing.
Discussion 1 pts Student has told reader what the problem is, possible health or societal issues, and solurtions and applications.	Poor No discussion other than a statement of here's the problem and we should be concerned.	Fair Details of the problem are experessed but lack detail. Few applications and reference to society.	Good Complete discussion of topic. Information from sources provides issues in society, health concerns, application of the problem, and popssible solutions.
