SINGLE Selection Short Answer SINGLE Selection Short Answer This takes the TEA "rubric" and actually puts it in a chart form so that students can understand the point system a little better. 	Insufficient 0 13 pts	Partly Sufficient 1 16 pts	Sufficient 2 19 pts	Exemplary 3 25 pts
Idea/Response	Insufficient 0 Idea is not an answer to the question asked, or no idea/answer is given.	Partly Sufficient 1 Student's response is reasonable, but is missing an explanation or is not specific enough. Response only considers the most literal meaning of the text.	Sufficient 2 Response is reasonable and goes beyond a literal meaning of the text.	Exemplary 3 Response is perceptive and shows awareness of complexities of the text.
Explanation	Insufficient 0 No explanation is given, or if one is given, it does not make sense.	Partly Sufficient 1 No explanation of response or explanation is not specific enough. Needs more information.	Sufficient 2 The explanation of the response is specific enough to show that the student can make connections throughout the text and draw valid conclusions.	Exemplary 3 Student develops a coherent explanation of the idea, making discerning connections across the text.
Text Evidence	Insufficient 0 The student does not base ideas on the text/what was read, or the student's response does not provide evidence from the text.	Partly Sufficient 1 Text evidence provided not present, or is flawed and does not adequately support the idea. Inadequate text evidence is: -only a general reference to the text -too partial to support the response -weakly linked to the response - misunderstands the meaning of the text	Sufficient 2 Text evidence used to support the idea is accurate and relevant. Response & text evidence used to support it are clearly linked.	Exemplary 3 Text evidence used to support the response is specific and well chosen. Overall, the evidence strongly supports the validity of the idea.
Coherence	Insufficient 0 Idea is too general, vague, or unclear to determine if it is a reasonable response. The student's reponse lacks text support, is quoted verbatim with no explanation, or "echoes" the text evidence.	Partly Sufficient 1 No textual evidence is provided. Even if text evidence is provided, the response still needs to be more specific or explain the idea more clearly.	Sufficient 2 The combination of the response and text evidence demonstrates a good understanding of the text.	Exemplary 3 The combination of the response and text evidence demonstrates a good deep understanding of the text.
