Story Elements
	Below Basic 1 pts	Basic 2 pts	Proficient 3 pts	Advanced 4 pts
Beginning of story	Below Basic Student attempts to identify how the story began, but is incorrect.	Basic Student can give 1 detail from the beginning of the story, but does not state the key point, or what the problem is.	Proficient Student identifies key elements of the beginning of the story, including the problem or situation.	Advanced Student correctly expresses all key elements from the beginning of the story, including the problem, and describes how it introduces the story.
Middle of story	Below Basic Student attempts to identify events from the middle of story, but is unable to correctly do so.	Basic Student can give 1 event from the middle of story, but leaves out the key point(s), or what the character(s) is doing to solve the problem.	Proficient Student identifies key elements from the middle of the story, which tell what the character(s) is doing to solve the problem.	Advanced Student correctly identifies all the key elements of the story and can express why it is important to the story.
End of story	Below Basic Student attempts to identify events from the end of story, but is unable to do so.	Basic Student can give 1 event from the end of story, but leave out key point.	Proficient Student identifies key elements from the end of the story.	Advanced Student correctly expresses all the key elements from the ending of the story and describes how it concludes the action.
Color and Components	Below Basic Students fails to have color, title of story and Author's Name	Basic Student attempts to have 1 item colored and Author or publisher's name	Proficient Student has 3-4 Items colored and Author or publisher's name	Advanced 4 Items colored and Author or publisher's name
