Writing a Play Writing a Play After reviewing the Writing Model in the Language Handbook (pages 70-71) the children will write a short play. Rubric Code: MX4C6BX By mmmurray716 Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: English Type: Writing Grade Levels: K-5

The Play
	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Needs Work 1 pts
Creativity	Excellent The play is creative and detailed and explains the characters actions, emotions, and props.	Good The play is creative and included some detailed character actions, emotions, and props.	Fair The play has little creativity.	Needs Work The play does not have any creativity.
Dialogue	Excellent The dialogue flows and it is interesting. Dialogue follows the story.	Good The dialogue somewhat flows and is interesting. Dialogue follows the story most of the time.	Fair The dialogue does not flow very well and it is confusing to the reader/audience.	Needs Work Dialogue is extremely chopping and does not make sense.
Time and Setting	Excellent Time and setting are both mentioned at the beginning and relevant to the play.	Good Time and /or setting are mentioned but not at the beginning.	Fair Time is mentioned but not a setting or the setting is mentioned but not the time.	Needs Work No time or setting mentioned in the play.
Characters	Excellent Characters are named and labeled (including the narrator).	Good Characters are named.	Fair Characters are not well developed and confuse the reader.	Needs Work Missing important characters from the story.
Conventions	Excellent No grammatical mistakes. The play is written using the format in the Language Handbook (pages 70-71).	Good Contains a couple grammatical mistakes and /or is missing one required piece of data.	Fair Contains several grammatical mistakes and/or two pieces of the required data.	Needs Work Play is sloppy and unable to read. Many grammatical errors. DID NOT FOLLOW THE LANGUAGE HANDBOOK FORMAT
