SINGING SKILLS
OUTSTANDING
10 pts
AVERAGE
8 pts
BELOW AVERAGE
6 pts
Pitch Accuracy
OUTSTANDING
You sang with accurate pitches throughout the piece in both the low and high parts of your vocal range
AVERAGE
There were only one or two pitch inaccuracies, but overall, you sang all pitches very well.
BELOW AVERAGE
There were many pitch problems in your presentation. You are struggling to sing on pitch with your section. I recommend that you meet with me before or after school so that I can help you.
Rhythm Accuracy
OUTSTANDING
Your rhythms were sung properly both on and off the beat. You have an expert awareness of this skill.
AVERAGE
There were only one or two rhythmic inaccuracies, but overall you did very well.
BELOW AVERAGE
There were several rhythmic inaccuracies. You need to pay closer attention in class when we work on reading rhythms.
Energy
OUTSTANDING
You sang with energy, with your mouth opened
AVERAGE
Your energy level was fine, and you sang with your mouth opened most of the time.
BELOW AVERAGE
Only occasionally, and then only with prompting, did you sing with energy. You need to OPEN YOUR mouth so that I can SEE the ENERGY you are putting into your singing.
Projection
OUTSTANDING
You sang with purpose and confidence. I had no problems at all hearing your voice.
AVERAGE
You sang well, but you need to work on projecting your voice and singing with confidence. You did a great job, just SING OUT a little more.
BELOW AVERAGE
You are not projecting your voice so that others can hear you. Every voice is important. Your section is depending on you to be heard. So PROJECT some sound! The WHOLE is only as great as it's PARTS.
Diction and Articulation
OUTSTANDING
You sang with words that were understandable; your vocal line was articulated clearly; your phrasing was excellent and your diction was near perfect. Final consonants and tall vowels were audible.
AVERAGE
I could understand almost every word, but there were a few times when final consonants and tall vowels could have been sung more carefully.
BELOW AVERAGE
I could NOT understand your words. Words are so IMPORTANT. Without them, we cannot convey the message to our audience. Pay closer attention in class to HOW WE ARTICULATE our words so that people can understand us.
