Meets Expectations Author uses some evidence that supports interpretation of theme. Theme appropriate if not totally clear.	Above Expectations Author uses multiple pieces of evidence to support interpretation of theme. Theme interpreted is appropriate to text based on evidence.	Exceeds Expectations Author uses multiple pieces of specific evidence to support interpretation of theme in both texts. Theme interpreted is appropriate to text based on evidence given.
Comparison/Contrast	Below Expectations Author does not include comparison or contrast of THEME ideas in texts.	Meets Expectations Author includes limited comparison and contrast of multiple texts, but does compare/contrast theme in texts.	Above Expectations Author compares and contrasts multiple ideas about theme in multiple texts using mostly general examples from texts.	Exceeds Expectations Author compares and contrasts multiple ideas about theme in multiple texts using specific examples.
