Content - 3 concepts

Wow!

Student has carefully chosen and explained 3 major concepts from the assigned reading. Key information is communicated clearly and with a high level of accuracy, and with creativity and enthusiasm. The presented information is balanced and very nicely organized (flows well).
On Target

Student has chosen 3 major concepts and has a basic understanding of the content. Concepts are effectively communicated. There may be too much or too little detail in some places, but overall the information is balanced and organized.
Getting Closer

Student has chosen at least 2 major concepts and/or has only a superficial or limited understanding of content. Some mistakes were made during the presentation. Some key concepts are not explained clearly. There may be far too much detail in some places, and/or far too little detail in others. The presentation seems off balance, so that it does not flow smoothly (not organized).
Not There Yet

Student has chosen 2-3 concepts that are not considered relevant or particularly important to the field, or only one major concept. Student has little to no understanding of the content addressed and does not communicate key information clearly. The presentation is vague and/or bogged down in detail, and there is no sense of flow or organization.

Getting Closer

Student reads from notes or seems unrehearsed.
Not There Yet

Student is obviously unprepared or "winging" it.

Discussion Prep & Facilitation

Wow!

Student comes prepared with several intriguing discussion prompts (at least 3 from the HW board) that require students to think critically and draw connections to class material and "real life" applications. Student keeps conversation flowing, encouraging participation from all class members and asking follow-up questions when appropriate. Uses a creative, engaging, and relevant activity to encourage participation.
On Target

Student comes prepared with some prompts or questions that encourage class discussion (at least 2 from the homework board). May over-rely on one student, or on him/herself, to carry the discussion, but is able to maintain an overall level of reciprocal and thoughtful discussion using initial and follow-up questions. Uses an activity to encourage participation.
Getting Closer

Student attempts to prompt class discussion and comes prepared with at least 1 discussion prompt (from the HW board) but ends up talking most of the time or allowing just one or two students to carry the conversation. There is some reciprocity and critical thinking, but may allow discussion to veer off topic or fail to stimulate further thought with follow-up questions. May not prepare an activity or attempt to encourage participation in other ways.
Not There Yet

Student may try to start class discussion by asking one or two questions, but is obviously "winging it;" asking irrelevant, vague, or non-stimulating questions; allowing long, awkward silences with no progression; or completely taking over the discussion. No activities or exercises are included.
