Topic	Unsatisfactory The paragraph does not stay on topic or more than one sentence is missing or out of order.	Partially Proficient The paragraph partially stays on topic. 1 sentence is out of order or missing.	Proficient The paragraph stays on topic and is in the correct order.
Supporting Details	Unsatisfactory Paragraph includes 0-1 supporting sentences to support the main idea.	Partially Proficient Paragraph includes 2 supporting sentences that have a detail sentence. Sentences support the main idea.	Proficient Paragraph includes 3 supporting sentences that have a detail sentence. Sentences clearly support the main idea.
Conventions	Unsatisfactory Many capitalization, sentence structure, and punctuation errors.	Partially Proficient Only a few errors of capitalization, sentence structure, or punctuation.	Proficient No errors in capitalization, sentence structure, or punctuation.
Spelling	Unsatisfactory Many spelling errors.	Partially Proficient Few spelling errors.	Proficient Grade level appropriate words are spelled correctly, including sight words.
Neatness/Form	Unsatisfactory Paragraph is sloppy. No indention. Red lines are ignored while writing.	Partially Proficient Paragraph is mostly neat. Paragraph is indented. There are only a few lines that are outside of or too far inside of the red lines.	Proficient Paragraph is neatly written, indented and written on the correct side of the paper. All writing is between the red lines.
Creativity	Unsatisfactory Paragraph starts out with the same word/transition and/or doesn't use interesting words.	Partially Proficient Paragraph starts out few of the same word/transition and/or uses a few interesting words.	Proficient Paragraph starts out with different transition words or sentence types, and there are many interesting words.
