Writing Math Word Problems
	Level 4 4 pts	Level 3 3 pts	Level 2 2 pts	Level 1 1 pts
Example	Level 4 Example clearly represents the topic of the problem.	Level 3 Example somewhat represents the topic of the problem.	Level 2 Example attempts to represent the problem.	Level 1 Example is not present.
Content	Level 4 Appropriate content is used for each word problem. Student clearly understands the mathematical concepts.	Level 3 Appropriate content is used for each word problem. Student shows some understanding of the mathematical concepts.	Level 2 Appropriate content may be used. Student shows little understanding of the mathematical concepts.	Level 1 Appropriate content is not observed. Student does not demonstrate an understanding of the mathematical concepts.
Organization	Level 4 The word problem is written in clear and coherent language. Proper vocabulary is present. The problem ends with a question.	Level 3 The word problem is written in clear and coherent language. The problem ends with a question.	Level 2 The word problem is not written in clear and coherent language. The question is not appropriate for the problem.	Level 1 The word problem is not written in clear and coherent language, or may not be present. The question for the problem is not present.
Solution	Level 4 The solution is correct with all steps present. A final answer is highlighted.	Level 3 The solution contains one minor error with all steps present. A final answer is highlighted.	Level 2 The solution contains more than one error or has steps missing. The final answer may or may not be highlighted.	Level 1 There is no solution for the problem.
Mechanics	Level 4 Proper language, spelling,capitalization and punctuation are present with no mistakes.	Level 3 Proper language, spelling, capitaliztion and punctuation are present with no more than two mistakes.	Level 2 Proper language, spelling,capitalization and puntuation may be used, but more than two mistakes.	Level 1 Proper language, spelling,capitaliztion and punctuation are not observed.
