Essay Beowulf Character
Essay 1
Analyze the character of Grendel. Look back over the passages in "Beowulf" that describe Grendel and gather some evidence on how he is described. Consider 1) How does the storyteller, in describing the creature, also shape our feelings towards him? 2) What accounts for Grendel's evil? 3) What does Grendel seem to represent in the story? Alternate assignment: Write an essay about two characters with contrasting views of honor. Show how each feels about what is and is not honorable.
