The students should demonstrate correctly the following skills when performing the selected piece of music: playing pitches, playing rhythms, breathing, sticking and posture.

The beat is somewhat erratic. Some rhythms are accurate. Frequent or repeated duration errors.

The beat is secure and the rhythms are mostly accurate. There are a few duration errors.
Accomplished

The beat is secure and the rhythms are accurate for the style of the music being played.
Breathing

Breathing every 2-4 measures not in the middle of a phrase.

Ineffective

Does not incorporate good breathing technique, which support tone quality and phrasing.
Proficient

Inconsistently uses good breathing techniques to support tone quality and phrasing.
Developing

Frequently good breathing techniques to support tone quality and phrasing.
Accomplished

Consistenly uses good breathing techniques to support tone quality and phrasing.
Posture

Both hands and all fingers in the correct position on the recorder.

Sitting on the edge of the chair with feet flat on the floor.

Ineffective

Rarely uses correct hand/holding and seated/standing posture for the duration of the performance.
Proficient

Sometimes uses correct hand/holding and seated/standing posture for the duration of the performance.
Developing

Typically uses correct hand/holding and seated/standing posture for the duration of the performance.
Accomplished

Consistenly uses correct hand/holding and seated/standing posture for the duration of the performance.
Expression and Style

Ineffective

Rarely demonstrates expression and style. Just plays the notes.
Proficient

Sometimes performs with a style indicated by the music, teacher or peer.

Typically performs with a style indicated by the music, teacher or peer.
Accomplished

Frequently performs with a style indicated by the music with little to no coaching from teacher or peer.
Percussion Sticking

Use alternate sticking (RLRL or LRLR) unless other sticking patterns are in your music.
