Writer's purpose is vague, unreferred to, or lost as the paper progresses.	Does Not Meet Theme is unclear and not supported. No sense of purpose or direction in the paper.
Supporting evidence	Exceeds Textual evidence is clearly connected to writer's stance. Plenty of evidence to support and defend writer's purpose.	Meets Textual evidence is connected to writer's stance, but questions could challenge it's use. Amount of textual support is limited.	Approaching Vague or distant connections to writer's purpose in the use of evidence. Minimal or little use of textual evidence to defend writer's stance.	Does Not Meet No textual evidence, or minimal use. No clear connection between evidence and writer's purpose.
