Performance Test

Posture	1 Poor posture. In back of chair, slouching, and/or legs crossed. Instrument position is incorrect. Needs individual attention.	2 Posture needs improvement. In back of chair, slouching, and/or legs crossed. Instrument position needs improvement.	3 Very good posture. Sits up and off the back of chair with feet flat on the floor. Instrument position mostly correct.	4 Excellent posture. Sits up on edge of chair with feet flat on the floor. Instrument position is excellent.
Left Hand	1 Does not demonstrate basic left hand structure.	2 Basic structure is beginning to be formed, but is not consistant. Left hand has too much tension which limits success	3 Left hand has good basic structure. Wrist is relaxed and arm moves fluidly around the instrument.	4 Left hand is excellent. The hand is consistant, accurate, relaxed and allows for success.
Right Hand	1 Does not demonstrate basic right hand structure.	2 Bow arm needs attention. There is no flexibility in the arm. It needs to be relaxed. Address the contact point and your arm weight.	3 Bow arm has beginning basic structure. Contact point, weight and speed are consistant.	4 Excellent bow arm. Right hand is flexible and fluid. Elbow and shoulder are aiding sound. Great contact point and natural weight.
Tone	1 Poor sound. Needs more bow, better weight distribution, needs better contact point. Keep left hand secure for good sound.	2 Sound not developed. Keep working towards more volume and consistancy in tone.	3 Tone is generally consistant. Good basic use of the bow and left hand.	4 Tone is excellent. Great use and distribution of the bow. Steady contact point, good arm weight.
Intonation	1 Music is completely out of tune. The student has no concept of where the fingers should be placed on the fingerboard.	2 Several errors in intonation occur, even though the hand is positioned correctly, little effort is made to correct mistakes.	3 Occasional notes are played out of tune, the student recognises this and attempts to correct their mistakes.	4 No notes are played out of tune - the intonation is very accurate. The music was performed as written.
Rhythm	1 No sense of pulse. Rhythms are incorrect.	2 Basic sense of pulse. Some rhythms are incorrect.	3 Secure pulse with minor rhythmic problems.	4 Strong sense of pulse. All rhythms performed accurately
