Friendly Letter	Poor The letter includes an appropriate greeting or closing.	Fair Most parts of a friendly letter are presented and properly placed.	Good The writer uses proper friendly letter format with all parts of a friendly letter present and properly placed.
Compound Sentence	Poor The writer uses no compound sentence, but all sentences are properly punctuated.	Fair The writer uses at least one compund sentence, which is properly punctuated, but the coordination conjunction choses may not clearly show ther relationship between the two thoughts.	Good The writer uses at least one compund sentence with a comma and an appropriate coordinating conjunction or a simi-colon to join the two thoughts.
