Five Paragraphs

an essay contains five paragraphs about one topic. The paragraphs are at least five sentences per paragraph.

Beginning

I don't have five paragraphs. I have one or two very long ones.
Developing

I have a few paragraphs but not five. My paragraphs are not five sentences long. Some are longer than that. Some are shorter.
Proficient

I have written five paragraphs. I have indented for each and there are at least five sentences per paragraph.

Introduction

an essay contains an introduction that provides some background information that includes a time and a place; a thesis statement; and the three topics of the essay. A transition sentence moves the reader into the body of the essay.

I don't have an introduction. I just started writing about my topic.
