Five Paragraph Essay
	Level 4 10 pts	Level 3 8 pts	Level 2 6 pts	Level 1 2 pts
Intro. Paragraph	Level 4 Lead-in sentence grabs reader's attention, gives clear thesis statement with three points writer will discuss.	Level 3 Lead-in statement mildly attention grabbing, gives weak thesis with less than three points	Level 2 Lead-in statement is weak and does not grab reader's attention	Level 1 Does not give thesis statement,
3 Body Paragraphs	Level 4 8 sentences per paragraph, transitions are smooth, vocabulary is academic, keeps reader's attention. Each paragraph gives 2 or 3 details supporting points made in thesis statement.	Level 3 somewhat smooth transitions, vocabulary needs work. Only 1 detail supporting points in thesis statement.	Level 2 does not keep reader's attention, transitions are unclear. No details	Level 1 does not have 3 body paragraphs
Conclusion Paragraph	Level 4 thesis is paraphrase in an interesting manner, concludes paper clearly, vocabulary is academic. Intriguing closing statement.	Level 3 thesis is restated exactly does not clearly conclude paragraph. Uninteresting closing statement.	Level 2 no restated thesis, unclear conclusion of paper. Poor closing.	Level 1 no conclusion
Mechanics/Usage/Grammar	Level 4 Very few mechanical problems in paper, no spelling errors, little or no grammar problems, paper is formatted properly, great sentence structure	Level 3 some mistakes and spelling errors, confusing format, some grammar problems, fair sentence structure.
