Proportions	Needs more work Student did use the oval and grid for the face, but did not use the correct proportions. Student did not use shadowing. Student did not add any detail such as hair, marks, highlights, facial hair.	Fair Student was somewhat successful in proportions. Student used the grid for the proportions but could not place features of the face completely correctly on the grid.	Good Student was successful in using the proportion grid and also using shadowing. Student was moderately successful in creating shapes of the face and detail to resemble the subject.	Excellent The student was successful in creating a face with correct proportions, highlights and shadows, with added detail to create a face that closely resembles the subject.
Shadow	Needs more work Student did not use shadowing.	Fair Student used either highlight or dark shadows, but not both. Student did not use the overall shadow technique. Student made too-obvious shadow or highlight.	Good Student was successful in using the overall shadow technique, highlight and shadowing. Student was only moderately successful in using the shadowing technique to create a 3-D effect. Follows all directions.	Excellent Student has an error free piece of work, neatly done. Piece of art that displays good technique.
