Poem Selection	Mastery Student includes all 3 required poems taught and written in class, with at least 5 total included in the final submission.	Approaching Mastery Student includes at least 2 required poems, with at least 5 total included in the final submission.	Proficient Student includes at least 2 required poems, with at least 4 total included in the final submission.	Working Towards Proficiency Student is missing more poems than were taught and written in class
Word Choice	Mastery Student’s use of vocabulary is precise and vivid.	Approaching Mastery Student’s use of vocabulary is routine and workable.	Proficient Student’s use of vocabulary is more telling than showing.	Working Towards Proficiency Student’s use of vocabulary is very basic.
Form	Mastery Poems are complete and follow their intended form.	Approaching Mastery Poems are mostly written in the proper forms.	Proficient Poems are somewhat written in the proper forms, while others are written differently than intended.	Working Towards Proficiency Poems are not written in the proper forms, ultimately diminishing the poetic value of the writer's collection.
Effort	Mastery Student’s work demonstrates a complete understanding of the assignment, and goes beyond the requirements.	Approaching Mastery Student’s work demonstrates a strong understanding of the assignment.	Proficient Student’s work demonstrates an understanding of the assignment.
