Writes at least 3 questions which provoke discussion among the group members. Questions help bring understanding of the main theme(s) of the assigned reading or help clarify confusing parts and elicit answers beyond "yes" or "no."
Connector (Thinking)

Poor

Shares no connections between the text and him/herself, another book, story, movie, etc.
Fair

Shares 2 connection between the text and him/herself, another book, story, movie, etc., and does may or may not ask other group members to share their connections.
Good

Shares at least 3 connections between the text and him/herself, another book, story, movie, etc., but does not ask other group members to share their connections.
Outstanding

Shares at least 4 connections between the text and him/herself, another book, story, movie, etc. Asks all other group members to share their connections as well. Listens and adds on to the sharing of other group members to extend the discussion.
Investigator (Knowledge)

Poor

Investigations link to novel is not clear and does nothing to enhance overall understanding of novel.

Little effort was put into research/ cut and paste.
Fair

Investigation does not enhance the overall understanding of the novel.

Little effort was put into research resulting in an unclear/ineffective report.
Good

Investigation enhances understanding of novel.

Good effort was put into research resulting in a complete report.
Outstanding

Investigated topic greatly enhances understanding of novel.

Much effort was put into research process resulting in a thorough report.
Vocabulary Enricher (Application)

Poor

No unfamiliar, unusual or unique words are chosen.
Fair

Chooses at least 1-4 words from the reading that is unfamiliar, unusual or unique. Words are not well-defined or choice is not explained.
Good

Chooses at least 5-7words from the reading that are unfamiliar, unusual or unique. Accurately defines words and explains reasoning.
Outstanding

Chooses at least 8 words from the reading that are not only unfamiliar but also may be unusual or unique. Accurately defines words and explains reasoning.
Summarizer (Application)

Poor

information is incomplete and/or lacks organization
Fair

information is mostly complete and shows some clarity and organization
Good

information is complete and presented logically, clearly, and in an organized fashion

information is complete and clear, well-developed, and well-presented
