Lab report missing name and/or date and uses little, if any, indentation or other formatting that facilitates easy reading. Report sections are either too cramped or too spread out. Sections may or may not have clear titles. Indenting is either absent or inappropriately used.
Fair

Lab report may be missing one or two small details (name or date). Formatting generally permits ease of reading. Minor space issues - too much or too little. One or more sections may not have a clear title. Indenting may be missing in some cases.
Good

Lab report has the studentʻs name, the date and uses good indentation as well as enough space to allow for easy reading. Each section has a clear title. Indenting is used appropriately.
Purpose/Hypothesis

Poor

Are absent or do not make any sense. May be poorly written or not relevant to lab.
Fair

Are present and are relevant to lab. Could use improvement relative to vocabulary, detail and/or evidence of thought.
Good

Are present, relevant to the lab and detailed enough to indicate thought and understanding of the lab.
Materials

Poor

This section is either absent or lacking too many of the materials to be useful. May not indicate amounts or quantities needed. May or may not be in a table or bullet list.
Fair

This section is present but in very limited detail. May be missing one or more items and quantities. May or may not be in a table or bullet list.
Good

This section is well-written, completely lists all materials and quantities. Presented in a table or bullet list.
Procedure

Poor

This section is either absent or lacks any reasonable amount of detail to be useful. Does not allow for reader to reproduce experiment from lab report. May be plagiarized.
Fair

Section is present but may be lacking in sufficient detail to allow reader to reproduce experiment. Is in studentʻs own words but may be difficult to follow in some places. Outline format may or may not be used.
Good

Section is well-written in studentʻs own words. Level of detail is sufficient to allow reader to reproduce experiment. Good outline format used.
Data

Poor

Data and observations may be missing or, if present, may be too messy or disorganized to be of any use. May not use organized tables to display data. May not be in a clear section.
Fair

This section is present but may have organization issues making the data difficult to read and/or understand. Data may or may not be in tabular format.
Good

Section is well-organized and complete. Data are easy to read and understand. All relevant labels are present. Data are in appropriate tables.
Graphs (if relevant)

Each of the 3 sections is double points, 0-1, 2-3 and 4-5 respectively.

Poor

May be absent. If present, they lack appropriate structure and necessary labels, units and titles. Do not show data trends in any usable way. Graphs may or may not be of the correct type.
Fair

Graphs are present but may be lacking one or more details such as title, labels, units, etc. Are of correct structure/type but may have organizational issues making them difficult to read. Graphs are of the correct type.
Good

Graphs are well-organized with all appropriate details including labels, titles, units, etc. Graphs are of the correct type and size and are clean and easy to read.
Post Lab Qs

Each of the 3 sections is double points, 0-1, 2-3 and 4-5 respectively.

May be missing. If present, they are lacking detail and may not make sense. Do not allow for conclusions to be drawn in a meaningful way. May be indications of plagiarism.

Questions are present but are lacking detail. May not indicate enough thought/time spent on questions. May be difficult to understand in some areas. Conclusions are marginal. Responses are in studentʻs own words.
Good

Questions are well-organized and indicate time and thought spent on them. Conclusions are clear and relevant to the lab. Responses are in studentʻs own words.
