Reading Response Journals Students must respond to a book they are reading independently at least once a week. Rubric Code: L5B5AX By rowens7 Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: English Type: Reading Grade Levels: K-5

Reading Response Journals
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Correct Friendly Letter Format	Poor Less than 3 parts of the friendly letter are present.	Fair 3-4 parts of the friendly letter are present.	Good All parts of the friendly letter are present. (Date, Greeting, Body, Closing, Signature)
Conventions	Poor 1/3 are correct.	Fair 2/3 are correct.	Good Book title is underlined. Paragraphs are indented. Commas and end punctuation are used appropriately.
Summary	Poor Summary is more of an evaluation. It may be unclear if the student read the book.	Fair Summary is included but gives too few or too many details.	Good Summary is written in the first paragraph. Summary includes the book title and author. Summary includes characters, problem/solution, and important events. Student proves he/she read the book.
Response	Poor Student response does not give evidence from the text or is not a response to the book.	Fair Student attempts to respond to the prompt, but enough evidence is not given.	Good Response prompt is well thought out and uses evidence from the text as support.
