DANCE STRUCTURE
Clear position for beginning/ending	UH OH Dancers are just standing in beginning/end positions.	GOOD The beginning/end positions look fairly confident and intruiguing. Dancers show some thought and creativity to body shapes, spatial patterns, and how they connect to the dance.	WHOO HOO!!! The beginning/end positions are very creative and intriguing. Shapes/positions are interesting to look at and make sense with the rest of the dance.
Utilization of the Stage(formation)	UH OH Formations are not set or the group remains in one formation throughout the dance	GOOD Formations are set but not clear. OR Only a few different formations are used throughout the dance	WHOO HOO!!! Formations are clear and make sense for the dance. The group uses three or more formations throughout the dance.
Clear beginning, middle, end	UH OH The dance provides the same energy from beginning to end.	GOOD There is either a clear beginning, middle or ending missing from the choreography	WHOO HOO!!! There is a clear beginning, middle and end.
CHOREOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLES
Elements(varied facing, levels..)	UH OH Basic dance elements are mostly ignored. There is little or no variation in level, pathways, shape, facing, etc...	GOOD The attempt was made to incorporate some elements into the dance. There are some variations of level, pathway, shape, facing, etc.)	WHOO HOO!!! Dancers put a great deal of thought into the choreographic elements, and have incorporated it with great success. Ideas are creative and interesting.
Communicates ideas & emotions	UH OH There is very little expression or emotion throughout the dance.	GOOD The dance is beginning to express an idea or emotion.	WHOO HOO!!! The dance clearly expresses an idea in a creative way. The emotion of the work can be felt and is interesting to watch.
Transitions	UH OH There are almost no smooth transitions between movements. OR There are no smooth transitions between songs.	GOOD Most of the movements and/or changes in music transition smoothly with few bumps along the way.	WHOO HOO!!! The dance transitions smoothly from one section to the next with no bumps.
