Types of poems	Poor Two or more poems are written incorrectly.	good One poem is written incorrectly.	Excellent All poems are written correctly according to the format for each type of poem. (Haiku, sonnet, narrative, lyric, villanelle, and blank verse or free verse. Six total.)
Writing Mechanics	Poor Five or more errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation present.	good Three or four errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation present.	Excellent One or two errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation present.
Explanation of poems	Poor Two or more parts of the directions not discussed.	good One part of the directions not discussed.	Excellent All parts of the directions discussed. (Tone, theme, what poem is about, and why it was written that way.)
Analysis Marks	Poor Three or more parts of the poem are not marked.	good One or two parts of the poem are not marked.	Excellent All parts of poem are marked. (Stressed/unstressed syllables, rhythm/meter, rhyme scheme, stanzas, and repetition.)
