Dribbling

Beginning

Student cannot dribble the basketball with control while moving:
-Dribbles with palm of hand.
-Rigid stance, knees not bent.
Developing

Student can dribble the basketball while moving:
-Does not have good control.
-Cannot dribble with head up.
-Sometimes dribbles with finger pads.
Proficient

Student can dribble the basketball with good control and proper positioning:
-Student dribbles with head up.
-Student dribbles with finger pads, knees bent.
-Able to pivot while dribbling.
Distinguished

Student can dribble the basketball with excellent control, proper positioning, and both hands:
-Student dribbles with head up, finger pads, knees bent.
Shooting

Beginning

Student cannot shoot the ball successfully:
-Student does not follow through.
-Student uses two hands to shoot.
Developing

Student can sometimes shoot the ball successfully:
-Student sometimes follows through.
-Student uses two hands instead of one to shoot.
Proficient

Student shoots the ball correctly:
-Student follows through.
-Student is usually successful in shooting.
Distinguished

Student shoots the ball demonstrating these techniques:
-Bend/Balance, Elbow, Eyes, Extend, Follow-through.
-Student demonstrates excellent accuracy.
Passing

Beginning

Student cannot pass the ball successfully:
-Student does not follow through on pass.
-Student cannot get the pass to teammates.
-Student does not make sure the pass recipient is ready for the ball.
Developing

Student can sometimes pass the ball successfully.
-Student sometimes follows through the pass.
-Student sometimes makes sure the pass recipient is ready for the ball.
Proficient

Student passes the ball correctly:
-Student follows through on pass.
-Student usually completes the pass to a teammate.
-Student usually makes sure their teammate is ready for the pass.
Distinguished

Student passes the ball with precision and accuracy:
-Student passes so that their teammate can receive it with ease.
Offense and Defense

Beginning

Student does not recognize when they are on offense or defense and cannot apply any strategies or tactics.
Developing

Student sometimes recognizes when they are on offense or defense and sometimes applies strategies and tactics.
Proficient

Student recognizes the difference between offense and defense the majority of the time and applies correct strategies and tactics.
Distinguished

Student recognizes the difference between offense and defense and uses different strategies and tactics at appropriate times.
Sportsmanship & Effort

Beginning

-Student often argues with other players
-Student is not interested in team play
-Student puts forth limited effort
Developing

-Students discourages others from trying to play
-Student demonstrates a somewhat negative attitude about game
