Leaves the reader wondering or is thought provoking.

The story is lacking a strong ending line.
Basics

The story's ending is weak, which greatly distracts from the overall story.
Good

The story has an effective ending that adds to the overall effect of the story.
Excellent

The story has a strong beginning, middle and the end "rings like a bell". The ending gives the reader a sense of satisfaction and leaves the reader something to think about.
