Guitar Basics	Poor Student does not handle guitar with care, and cannot identify the parts of the guitar.	Fair Student handles the guitar carefully, and can identify some parts of the guitar.	Good Student handles the guitar with care, and can identify the parts of the guitar.
Holding a Guitar	Poor Student does not hold the guitar in the proper manner and frequently needs direct instruction.	Fair Student is generally able to hold the guitar but needs some instruction in the placement of the hands and fingers.	Good Student is proficient at holding guitar without instruction and places fingers and hands in proper position.
Playing Chords	Poor Student is able to play and name 1-2, chords on guitar by memory.	Fair Student is able to name and play 3 chords on guitar by memory.	Good Student is able to name and play 4 or more chords on guitar by memory.
Strumming	Poor Student strums too hard or too soft or does not strum all of the strings in the chord. Strum patterns have frequent errors or hesistation detracting from the overall performance.	Fair Student has occasional errors with hand placement, pressure of strum or pattern but it does not detract from the overall performance.	Good Student has a professional sounding strum with wrist flowing freely on up and down patterns.
Tempo	Poor Student is unable to maintain a steady beat.	Fair Student is able to strum chords on a steady beat most of the time.	Good Student is able to strum chords on a steady beat all of the time.
Tone Quality	Poor Student applies too little pressure or fingers are misplaced causing buzzing most of the time.	Fair Student sometimes applies too little pressure or fingers are misplaced but the tone does not detract from the overall performance.	Good Student consistently applies adequate pressure and fingers are placed properly producing a good tone.
